Mark Tillman

Current Scope of Practice ​

 

Mark Tillman is one of the founding partners of Tillman Batchelor LLP. He is an AV rated attorney with extensive experience representing clients in a variety of litigated and non-litigated matters. Prior to forming Tillman Batchelor LLP, Mr. Tillman was a partner with an international trial law firm. He has represented both domestic and international carriers in complex insurance coverage disputes, extra-contractual claims, and disputes between insurance and reinsurance companies. He has provided coverage advice and/or litigated insurance disputes arising out of a wide variety of policies, including general liability, property, homeowners, automobile, life, workers' compensation, fidelity, professional liability, and reinsurance. He has conducted numerous audits for carriers to help them identify potential coverage issues and properly set reserves.

Mr. Tillman is also a trained mediator. Because of his significant litigation experience and reputation for integrity, he has been court appointed to mediate numerous cases involving a wide variety of disputes. His experience as a trial attorney, as well as his ability to accurately evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a case and articulate his views to others in a clear and concise manner, make him a highly effective intermediary 

 

Litigation Matters

 

The following is a representative sampling of Mr. Tillman's recent litigation accomplishments:

  • Obtained summary judgment in multi-million dollar claim arising out of alleged hail damage to a commercial property (state court).

  • Obtained take-nothing judgment in favor of insurer following bench trial in breach of contract/bad faith lawsuit arising out of homeowners' fire loss (federal court).

  • Obtained jury verdict in favor of insurer in breach of contract/bad faith lawsuit arising out of uninsured motorist claim (state court).

  • Obtained summary judgment in favor of reinsurer in multi-million dollar claim arising out of alleged fraud and conspiracy (state court).

  • Obtained summary judgment in favor of insurer in breach of contract/bad faith claim arising out of alleged breach of duty to defend (federal court).

  • Obtained summary judgment in favor of insurer in breach of contract/bad faith claim arising out of underinsured motorist claim (state court).

 

Affiliations, Activities and Accomplishments

 

Mr. Tillman is admitted to practice in Texas (1995), and the U.S. District Court for the Northern (1995), Southern, Eastern and Western (2000) Districts of Texas, and has been admitted pro hac vice in California, Florida, Louisiana, Oklahoma and West Virginia. He is a member of the Loss Executives Association (LEA), the Property Loss Research Bureau (PLRB), the State Bar of Texas, and the Dallas Bar Association.

Mr. Tillman is very active in his church, and serves on the Board of Directors for East West Ministries International, an international missions organization.

Education

 

Mr. Tillman received his J.D. (1995), summa cum laude, from Texas Tech University School of Law. While in law school, Mr. Tillman was elected to the Order of the Coif (top 10%) and served as Note Editor for the Texas Tech Law Review. He earned his B.B.A. (1992) from Wayland Baptist University.  Mr. Tillman has been highly rated by his peers, receiving an “AV Preeminent” rating from Martindale Hubble (fewer than 5% of attorneys), and has been named a perennial “Super Lawyer.”
